LUTs (Look-Up Tables) designed for video are typically created in the Rec. 709 color space, which is optimized for broadcast and digital video standards. However, Rec. 709 has a much narrower color gamut and dynamic range than the color spaces used in photography — such as sRGB, Adobe RGB, or ProPhoto RGB.
When a Rec. 709 LUT is applied to still photos, it can produce inaccurate color shifts, crushed shadows, or clipped highlights because it’s mapping tones and saturation levels intended for video monitoring, not high-bit-depth image files.
